A considered approach

Personalised care, not a one-size-fits-all treatment.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, often shortened to MLD, uses light and controlled movements designed to work with the body’s lymphatic system. It is very different from a deep tissue massage and should feel gentle rather than forceful.

At The Therapy Clinic the reason for treatment matters. Post-surgical clients, clients experiencing swelling and people booking for general lymphatic wellbeing may all need a different approach.

Why clients choose this treatment

Care built around comfort, suitability and clear expectations.

The exact treatment plan depends on the service, your reason for booking and anything relevant from your health or recovery history.

01

Gentle technique

MLD uses light, rhythmic movements rather than heavy pressure or aggressive massage.

02

Post-surgical support

Where appropriate, MLD can form part of a considered post-operative treatment plan alongside medical aftercare.

03

Swelling management

Appointments may be used to support clients experiencing fluid-related swelling where treatment is appropriate.

04

Whole-person assessment

Health history, current symptoms and the reason for booking are considered before treatment begins.

05

Calm treatment environment

Sessions are private, unhurried and designed to help you feel informed and comfortable throughout.

06

Follow-up planning

Where more than one session may be useful, the frequency can be reviewed rather than automatically prescribed.

Important suitability information

MLD is not suitable for every situation. Acute infection, unexplained swelling, suspected blood clot, uncontrolled heart problems or sudden changes in health require medical assessment rather than treatment. If in doubt, contact the clinic before booking.

When you are unsure

Contact the clinic before booking if you are uncertain whether treatment is appropriate. For urgent symptoms, sudden deterioration or concerns after surgery, contact your surgical or medical team rather than waiting for a therapy appointment.

Questions before booking

Frequently asked questions.

Is lymphatic drainage painful?

MLD is normally very gentle. It does not rely on deep pressure and should not be an aggressive or painful treatment.

Is MLD only for people who have had surgery?

No. The clinic can also offer non-surgical lymphatic treatment where it is suitable following assessment.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no single number that suits everyone. The reason for treatment, response to sessions and any medical guidance should determine whether follow-up appointments are useful.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing. Practical preparation information can be supplied with the booking confirmation.
